Storage Solutions for Small Kitchens

While it may seem impossible to work in a small kitchen, there are things you can do to make the experience more enjoyable. One of the things you can do is create more storage space. After all, the more storage space you have, the more equipment you can have for making your favorite dishes. If you find yourself short on space, here are just a few of the tricks you can use to create more room for storage.

Small Kitchen

Use a Pot Rack

One of the best things I’ve ever done for my small kitchen was to purchase a pot rack. Pot racks are the perfect way to clear up space in your cabinets. I have a half circle pot rack that hangs above my stove. There are hooks along the edge to hang pots and pans and there is a flat surface on top for large pots and lids. This gave me room under the stove for my metal bakeware, which then gave me room in my cabinets for other things. A pot rack is not an expensive investment. You can easily purchase a large model for less than $100.

Take Advantage of Space Above Cabinets

Even if there’s not a lot of space between your cabinets and the ceiling, you can still make use of the space. I store extra boxes of cereal, holiday food platters and other thin items in this space. For me, it’s the perfect place to store items I don’t need at this very minute. Regardless of what you use it for, do not let the space go to waste. It will give you more space in your cabinets for items you need on a daily basis.

Shop for Furniture Carefully

Not only do you want furniture pieces that fit in your small kitchen, but you should consider storage as well. For example, I purchased a microwave cart that not only has storage underneath the microwave, but room on top as well. This way, I can store my glass bakeware underneath and snacks on top. It’s certainly been a great help. But, you can also purchase table sets that have storage in the benches, small cabinets for additional storage and even small racks that will slide between your refrigerator and cabinets.

Utilize Wall Space

As mentioned above, a pot rack is a great investment, but it shouldn’t be the only storage solution hanging in your kitchen. Spices racks are another wonderful way to clear up cabinet space. You can also install shelves to store cookbooks, storage containers and other various items.
